In early spring, the tulip fields begin to bloom in soft, shifting ribbons of colour beneath wide, open skies.

This painting captures that joyful feeling of standing amongst them — where the land seems to unfold endlessly, and each row gently recedes into the distance.

Now living in Belgium, I often find myself drawn to visit these fields just across the border, and I still remember the first time I saw them — that quiet moment of wonder, where the colour feels almost endless, both breathtaking and somehow deeply calming at once.

Far on the horizon, an ancient tree stands quietly, watching over the fields — a silent witness to generations of growers who have tended this land with patience and devotion.

Painted in a soft, impressionistic style, this piece is less about detail and more about feeling — a fleeting sense of light, colour, and atmosphere, inspired by those moments that are held briefly and then gone until next spring.

This painting pairs beautifully with its companion piece, "Where the land remembers"
