Inspired by that awe-inspiring moment when the sun sets and the moon rises like a silver penny, glowing above clouds brushed with rose and gold.

I painted this piece while thinking about those quiet evenings when I stand in my garden watching the sky slowly change. Snow seems to hold the last light of the day in such a gentle way, reflecting soft colour across the fields and creating a hush that feels almost timeless.

​

The rising moon has always given me a feeling of connection — the comforting thought that while I stand beneath it, someone else, somewhere far away or nearby, may be pausing to look up at the very same moon. It carries a sense of both smallness within the vastness of nature, and a quiet belonging to it.

​

Winter landscapes at dusk feel especially peaceful to me. The softened edges of snow, the stillness of the land, and the fading warmth of sunset colours create a moment that invites such delight. I wanted this painting to capture that fleeting, magical hour between day and night.

Displayed in a home, The Moonlight Hours is intended as a small window into a tranquil winter evening — a reminder to pause, breathe deeply, and find comfort in the quiet beauty that surrounds us.
